Isaiah 53

Image
This week I did a review of the album Anthem for the Outcast by The Midnight Wedding. That album really just ends with Isaiah 53. Given a lot of different Christian rock stuff can be connected with this chapter I thought it might be worth looking through Isaiah 53. Who has believed what he has heard from us?     And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For he grew up before him like a young plant,     and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,     and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men,     a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces     he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs     and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken,      smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced f...

Anthem for the Outcast - Review

Image
Last week we saw the release of the debut full length album from a band going by the name The Midnight Wedding. The album is called Anthem of the Outcast and is it an interesting ride. The Midnight Wedding features two strong but different singers; Brandon is more interested in rock songs and Caitlin is more interesting in Worship song. The fun part is that both of them are willing and able to sing in both styles. This means we see heavier songs like Enforcers, Landslide, Kill Me and What I Preach . Worship songs like Escape, Unbelieve, and Set Me Free . Songs that fall somewhere between the lines with Hates Door and Walk Through Hell . Additionally we see and Acoustic guitar ballad with Right Beside Me and a piano ballad with Stay . We also see some guests on the album, including Andrew Stanton, Kevin Young, Sawn Michele, Peter Vogelpohl and more. I am not a huge Disciple fan, I just never really got into them, the contrast between Brandon’s voice and Kevin Young’s ...

Praise in Regret

Image
In this week’s video I spent some time talking about bad memories that can come to haunt us. I have not talked to many people about this but those that I have seem to have expressed a similar issue to me. Sometimes I get stuck thinking about a situation from years ago that I didn’t like how I acted or what I said and I am thinking about it for hours sometimes. This prevents me from doing whatever I need to do and there is no need to think about this anymore, the other parties involved have probably forgotten and moved on but here I am stuck with guilt from something that can never change. I want to just learn from it and move one, instead I let this regret become the poison I inject myself with. I tell myself I should learn from my mistakes and move on. Ask, for forgiveness and stop letting the past drag me down. Maybe there is more to it. I think these pains of regret should be turned into praise to our creator because even though we only see the bad he sees all the ripples in the w...

Rise

Image
In the first month of releasing videos I took a look at the song Rise by Nine Lashes . Since then I have learned a lot about making videos and that video is not my best work. That doesn’t mean the song doesn’t give us some valuable lessons. I recently went back and read just the first verse; I remember all too well Just wishing for the sun Yet holding onto darkness And I remember calling out TO BREAK INTO THE DAWN And I remember all too well Wishing that I could find A place to be and live and breathe And forget what lies behind But still had the night, I STILL HAD THE NIGHT The song as a whole is coming from someone that has been through the struggle of life and has found a way out. We see in the first verse that the struggle is a cycle. The desire to break free from the darkness but the inability to do so. And you always try to make changes in your life to be better but they seem to fall flat. The idea here is that breaking free is against human nature. If we look at...
