Your Great Love (Chorus)
We all experience times of doubt. We doubt ourselves. We doubt our friends and family. We doubt news sources. And sometimes we doubt God.
We could stop and ask why is that? We would, of course, eventually work our way to sin as the answer. The real question I want to explore is how can we be sure we shouldn’t doubt God? How can we be sure he is taking care of us, now and forever? And where can we pull this comfort from?
There are many different ways to be certain of this, but I am going to push this back to a song.
The song Your Great Love, specifically the chorus. Now if you have watched my Lyrical analysis of this song then you might realize that the only references I made to the bible in the chorus are both from Ephesians 1.
I want to expand on that so here is Ephesians 1:1-14
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and are faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Spiritual Blessings in Christ
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
Let’s break this down a little bit. This is the beginning of Paul’s letter to Ephesus. After this introduction it moves to a combination of praise and reminder of Christ’s love and blessing. We get a very powerful line in verse 4 he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. This shows us that we should doubt ourselves and not Him. We can be confident that we are chosen and will be blameless and holy before our King. And verse 7 shows us how In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. We are redeemed and forgiven by his blood that has been sacrificed for us.
We see in verse 11 that this is to be our inheritance. It is not something we have earned but something we have been given by love. It gets better in verse 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. The key here again is that it is sealed inside of us. It is protected. Hear and believe that Jesus has defeated death to give you this amazing gift.
Your
great love has won
This
can never be undone
By
Your grace in blood
You
have sealed the light in us
We
are Yours we are Yours
This really does sum this up so well. And it brings that perspective in that last line We are yours. We do truly belong to him and that is a permanent thing.
You Are His and you can believe that without doubt.
