Biblical Perspective
Earlier this week I posted about Noel and the song The FirstNoel. In there I talked about the use of the word Noel and the idea that I feel like most people don’t stop to think about what it really means and think it is more than it actually is.
This idea is kind of the point for this project as a whole but I feel like sometimes we find ourselves thinking that it doesn’t really matter. And to that I want to point out Ecclesiastes 7:1-13
A good name is better than precious ointment,
and the day of
death than the day of birth.
It is better to go to the house of mourning
than to go to the
house of feasting,
for this is the end of all mankind,
and the living
will lay it to heart.
Sorrow is better than laughter,
for by sadness of
face the heart is made glad.
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,
but the heart of
fools is in the house of mirth.
It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the wise
than to hear the
song of fools.
For as the crackling of thorns under a pot,
so is the laughter
of the fools;
this also is
vanity.
Surely oppression drives the wise into madness,
and a bribe
corrupts the heart.
Better is the end of a thing than its beginning,
and the patient in
spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
Be not quick in your spirit to become angry,
for anger lodges
in the heart of fools.
Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?”
For it is not from
wisdom that you ask this.
Wisdom is good with an inheritance,
an advantage to
those who see the sun.
For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of
money,
and the advantage
of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.
Consider the work of God:
who can make
straight what he has made crooked?
Some stuff that stands out to me here is verse five It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the wise than to hear the song of fools. I like this partially because it lists a song but also when you unpack it you see that it is better to listen to someone smart rejecting wrong ideas then someone that is happily spreading nonsense.
We also see in verse twelve For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it. The key here is to remember that this focuses on God’s wisdom that is found through His word.
I have heard people talking about thinking harder and I agree with this. We should be applying logic and thinking about so many things. However, no matter how hard we think about something it doesn’t matter if we don’t think about with a biblical perspective.
Without a biblical perspective then death is the end and is something we can rightfully be afraid of. With a biblical perspective we know that death is not the end, we know that death has been defeated and because of Jesus’ victory we need not fear the end of our time here on earth. For we know that we will spend eternity with Him.
