It's Finally Over

 It’s finally here!

The final countdowns are running.

Life can finally get better again. I can finally start to better myself. It is going to be an actually good year.

I hear this every year. Yes, it is worse this year because everyone hates 2020. There are plenty of songs we can look at to see this, some of them include bad language.

My question is why? Why do we think a different year will make such a difference? We don’t get this excited when a new month is starting. Why not? Why not have this excitement when a new week starts?

We love when a New Year starts.
We hate when a new week starts.
And we let months pass without a second thought.

We love New Year’s so much that we use it as a reason to set out to better ourselves. We are going to get in shape or push your brain harder.

And what do we all know about these resolutions?

Most of them have been stopped before the month has ended and once you get to summer then it is a real achievement to still have it going.

The idea that a New Year is going to change anything is a choice. We have to decide that no matter how bad yesterday was today will be better. Every day is a gift and we need to understand that and be as excited for a new day as we are for a New Year.

This simple choice will make your life actually better. We can’t use “Oh it’s 2020 so nothing good can happen.” Because I am sure you will just change that to “Oh it’s 2021 so nothing good can happen.”

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

We are renewed in Christ daily. We are here to live for Him. It is time for us to make the decision that every day will be better, that we will live for Him and share the great joy that we have knowing Him and knowing that He has brought us salvation. We have to let His light shine through us. We are here for a reason and that reason exists every day not just when a New Year starts.

Last week I released a video on the song Shy Away and I talked about the idea that you can use something other than words to say I love you. To me this brings to mind the song More than Words by Extreme. So let’s take a look at that. Verse 1 Saying "I love you" Is not the words I want to hear from you It's not that I want you Not to say, but if you only knew How easy it would be to show me how you feel More than words is all you have to do to make it real Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me 'Cause I'd already know This verse does feel a little disconnected but overall the point is made. I personally believe you should think about anything before you do it. If you find yourself doing it simply because someone told you to then that is not good enough. I also believe that you shouldn’t ask anyone to do anything without explaining why to them. You are free to do what you want but let’s look at some reason that singing should not be simply repeating other things. First, let’s define singing. Dictionary.com gives us the definition as a verb of to utter words or sounds in succession with musical modulations of the voice; vocalize melodically. I personally like the definition given in The Music Man where singing is simply defined as sustained talking. Are you held responsible for the words you say? Have you ever said something and then regretted it? If singing is simply talking then the same concepts apply. Words have meaning and consequences.
