By Your Throne
The first verse talks about the failure that I am, including the line Kick me while I’m down. I deserve less then that now. The chorus is a mission statement and verse two simply builds on that and calls to be better. Here are the lyrics to the Chorus:
Now! I see it in your
eyes.
And now I'm gonna try to be just like you.
To be just like You!
I feel it in my bones!
And now gonna try to stand on my own
and be just like you!
We can connect these to a number of bible verses, let’s look at three of them.
1 Corinthians 11:1
Be
imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
1 Peter 2:21
For to
this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an
example, so that you might follow in his steps.
Ephesians 5:1-2
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
It is important to see that we are called to be like Christ and the song openly admits that we are trying to do that. This trying is important because we cannot be like Him. We must stand with Him because on our own we are nothing.
Let’s look at Romans 7:15
For I do
not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very
thing I hate.
No matter what we do we will always fall short. We are called to be like Him and we will fail. We can, however, take joy in knowing that He has paid the price. We still strive to be like Him because we know without Him we would be nothing.
