Conflicting Powers

This week’s video was on the hymn All Hail The Power of Jesus Name. I want to push the thought on this power a little bit.

I believe that God has a plan that is increasingly complex with more moving parts then we can imagine. I think we can safely say that all things work together for the good of that plan. We can see this reflected in Romans 8:28

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

We as humans can get caught up in this thought and start to think that everything is happening the way God intends. We look at circumstances and see a single outcome and think that is what God wants. This is not that simple. God uses all things to work for Him, that means things must happen that are negative. He uses these negative things in His plan and turns them around in a positive way.

God has the true power, but Satan is not powerless on earth. Look at 1 Peter 5:8

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Jesus’ name is powerful and has defeated Satan by rising from the grave. Unfortunately, Satan is not someone that gives up, he may have accepted the loss but he is going to keep fighting to the very end. Yes, God has a plan and He will use Satan’s tricks to advance the plan forward. Satan is still pulling some strings and we need to be aware of that before assuming that God has set this up perfectly. God will use it to perfectly work out but that might look very different from what you expect.

Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
