Don't Shy Away Be BOLD

Let’s talk about being bold.

Acts 28:31
proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

There are two songs that come to mind on this topic, Bold by Ledger and Shy Away by Twenty One Pilots. Let’s look at each of their choruses.

Bold

I'm gonna be bold
Gotta hold my head up
Cause I know when I get up
There's a victory I already hold

Cause I know whose side I'm on
Got a heart like steel, a faith like gold
I'm gonna be bold

Shy Away

Don't you shy away
Manifest a ceiling
When you shy away
Searchin' for that feelin'
Just like an "I love you"
That isn't words
Like a song he wrote,
That's never heard

At first you probably didn’t think these songs were similar at all. They are presented in different ways but have a very similar message; A call to be Bold. One directed at itself and the other directed at someone else. They also tell us why to be bold.

Ledger goes into the idea that you have the knowledge of the outcome and that leaves no reason to not be Bold.

Twenty One Pilots shows that when you search for something you have to step up and boldly move forward not caring what the Status quo is.

The time is now, stand up for the Lord, don’t shy away because you want the world to like you. Know what side you are on and claim the victory that is already won.

2 Corinthians 3:12
Since we have such a hope, we are very bold

2 Timothy 1:8
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,

Last week I released a video on the song Shy Away and I talked about the idea that you can use something other than words to say I love you. To me this brings to mind the song More than Words by Extreme. So let’s take a look at that. Verse 1 Saying "I love you" Is not the words I want to hear from you It's not that I want you Not to say, but if you only knew How easy it would be to show me how you feel More than words is all you have to do to make it real Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me 'Cause I'd already know This verse does feel a little disconnected but overall the point is made. I personally believe you should think about anything before you do it. If you find yourself doing it simply because someone told you to then that is not good enough. I also believe that you shouldn’t ask anyone to do anything without explaining why to them. You are free to do what you want but let’s look at some reason that singing should not be simply repeating other things. First, let’s define singing. Dictionary.com gives us the definition as a verb of to utter words or sounds in succession with musical modulations of the voice; vocalize melodically. I personally like the definition given in The Music Man where singing is simply defined as sustained talking. Are you held responsible for the words you say? Have you ever said something and then regretted it? If singing is simply talking then the same concepts apply. Words have meaning and consequences.
