Infatuated By The Darkness

If you have gone through any of my content, then you are probably aware that I am always looking for songs that truly connect not only with the Gospel message but the reason we need it. The other day I found a line that particularly resonated with me. That was the following line from the song Rot by Lacey Sturm:

So infatuated by the darkness so surrounded by the light.

This is something we never want to admit but it applies to all of us in some way. Here read it again:
So infatuated by the darkness so surrounded by the light.

Even when we know we are saved, forgiven, and we truly want to change we are always drawn back to whatever is killing us. We are addicted to our sin. Let’s look at the chorus as a whole:
So infatuated by the darkness and so surrounded by the light
Oh my God, save my soul
And still I want what's pure and want what's right
But I need another fix tonight
Oh my God, save my soul

Why do we walk to the things that kill us?

We can take at least acknowledge that this is indeed an issue with everyone.

Romans 3:10
as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one

This is were the tone typically changes and we are reminded that you are loved and have been saved. But you already know that so why are you still reading?
Look at Hebrews 9:14:
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

See there it is but notice that last part purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
We are forgiven and saved. With that knowledge we must acknowledge our sin and turn from our addictions that kill us to serve our Savior in all that we do.
