It Takes More Than Words
In a previous blog post I went through the song More thanWords by Extreme. Today I want to explore how we can apply those ideas to our spiritual life.
In a quick review the idea behind the song is that saying I love you is not always the same as showing that love through action.
In a biblical sense we are called to repent, this is as a result of our love of God.
Deuteronomy 6:5
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and
with all your might.
Mark 6:12
So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent.
Sometimes we fall into a trap that Satan has laid. We simply ask for forgiveness but do not change our desires or intentions.
A definition that I have heard for repent is to have a change of heart about sin and about God. When we truly repent we have the desire to change our ways. We are committing to do everything we can to not fall again.
We will fall. There are few things we can be more certain of. But we need to do acknowledge that we need to change and show that in our hearts. It has to be more than words.
Acts 3:18-21
But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would
suffer, he thus fulfilled. Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins
may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of
the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom
heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God
spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.
