Living Well Is A Choice

Life on this earth is a series of choices. A lot of those choice we make without realizing it. To draw on this illustration, I want to look at parts of the song Living Well by Signum Regis.

The Pre-Chorus
I went through hell, but I am back
Ashes are still on my shoes
Yet, I don't seek any payback
Peace of mind is what I choose

We can chose this peace of mind and we are told to do so in Romans 12:17-21
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it[a] to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

We can see the overcome evil with good reflected in the Chorus
I've been mistreated
But not defeated
Despite the pain I am living well
Hate never helped me
Now you can't stop me
For my best revenge is living well

This shows the idea that no matter how miserable you may be you can live well. I’m not sure living well out of revenge is not exactly the right mindset; the point is that we should be striving to do good by one another even to the ones that have not been good to us. We can see this idea in Romans 12:10
Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Take joy in knowing that we are forgiven, Jesus has come and washed us clean. Because of this we can make the choice to live well in this fallen world that is always against us. We can live well and be a light to others that they can find this joy as well.

Matthew 6:14-15
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

More Than Words - Extreme | Lyric Analysis

Last week I released a video on the song Shy Away and I talked about the idea that you can use something other than words to say I love you. To me this brings to mind the song More than Words by Extreme. So let’s take a look at that. Verse 1 Saying "I love you" Is not the words I want to hear from you It's not that I want you Not to say, but if you only knew How easy it would be to show me how you feel More than words is all you have to do to make it real Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me 'Cause I'd already know This verse does feel a little disconnected but overall the point is made. The singer desires to feel the love and saying it is fine but actions speak a little louder than words. Why Think

I personally believe you should think about anything before you do it. If you find yourself doing it simply because someone told you to then that is not good enough. I also believe that you shouldn’t ask anyone to do anything without explaining why to them. You are free to do what you want but let’s look at some reason that singing should not be simply repeating other things. First, let’s define singing. Dictionary.com gives us the definition as a verb of to utter words or sounds in succession with musical modulations of the voice; vocalize melodically. I personally like the definition given in The Music Man where singing is simply defined as sustained talking. Are you held responsible for the words you say? Have you ever said something and then regretted it? If singing is simply talking then the same concepts apply. Words have meaning and consequences. And it is not uncommon to hear someone tell someone else to think before you speak, so why is singing any different? ...
