Would you describe yourself as nice?
Would you describe yourself as nice?
In order to do that you have to first define what it means to be mean. I want to look at the song Mean Girls by Leanna Crawford to help with this. Please note this is not a deep dive but simply using the opening lines to give us something to reflect on.
Mean girls don't remember what they said
If you use this as defining being mean, then you better
remember everything you have said.
If you are a fan of this song then you are probably wanting to point out that
there is more to the song then the first line. Let’s look at the first two
lines then.
Mean girls don't remember what they said
Well, it's funny 'cause I can't seem to forget
Now, is there anything that you have said that you do not remember, that someone else cannot forget?
Matthew 7:3
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do
not notice the log that is in your own eye?
I am not saying this is a true measure of if you are a nice person; but rather a reminder that deeper reflections are often required when making judgments on anyone.
People are going to say things that hurt you. People are going to do things that are blatantly wrong to you. We need to do what we can to reflect Christ back into this fallen world.
Colossians 3:13
bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against
another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must
forgive.
When you reflect on how mean people are to you, it is important to remember that God is with you and cares for you. It is also important to remember that You are a sinner as well and that you are called to forgive.
