And I will live like I believe
If you look at the song Good to be Alive by Geoff Moore you can jump to some quick conclusions.
The song starts simply recapping life, what it was like to be eight and imaginative. It shifts to dreaming in the teenage years and the chorus just fluffs around those ideas.
And it's good to be
alive
To feel the wind in my face
See the blue in the sky
It's days like this I realize
What a gift it is
It's good to be alive
Yes, this adds in the little idea of every day is a gift from God. And that is true and important but in this context, it is a direct reaction to a good day.
Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
The song as a whole takes a slightly darker turn, discussing tragedy.
Well I wonder, what
this day will see
Will I find my dreams or stare in the face of tragedy
Whatever may come
Whatever may be
Of this I am sure, I'm forgiven and free
And I will live like I believe
There is not a lot of time to dwell on the potential tragedy but the real takeaway from this is forgiveness. Whatever comes at us we know we are forgiven and set free from sin.
Colossians 2:13-14
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh,
God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by
canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This
he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Romans 6:17-18
But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient
from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and,
having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
It is also important to realize that it doesn’t stop at that line, but continues with living in a way that matches those beliefs. This is a vital step and when you look at the beginning of the song you would not expect to see this inclusion. We are forgiven and free. It is time to live our lives around that knowledge.
Ephesians 2:8-10
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing;
it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we
are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared
beforehand, that we should walk in them.
