If I Am Drowning Will You Push Me Farther Down

I recently looked at a song that is surrounded by myths/theories about what it is referring to, see video here. One line that gets pulled on the most is the line about not helping someone that is drowning. Again see the full video to see how that might not be a literal sense.

Here I want to turn toward a different song that does have some true drowning imagery. Wages Of Sin by Theocracy

The image comes from a line in verse two:
Death and devastation are the natural consequences of sin
Enough for any man to bear, even without your thinly-veiled revenge
You hand a glass of water to a man who's beginning to drown
You reach out your hand like you care, but only push him further down
But the payment is made

The point of the verse is to ask why are we hindering people that are already struggling. The examples given are extreme, yes, but that gives you an opportunity to stop and reflect on them. This is especially the case when we know someone is down. Let’s say a friend of yours made a mistake, a mistake that affects you in a negative way. You know that their day is already terrible, but it is much easier to say something else mean about it then to forgive. These comments can be devastating, even if they have good intentions (Those intentions are often just justification to ourselves).

Look at the chorus from Wages Of Sin:
Who would feast upon disgrace?
Well I don't know, I don't wanna know
Blackened hearts will try to raise the wages of sin
Death has kissed the lives we knew
So isn't that enough for you?
The price was paid, and no one has to pay it again
For the payment is made
The payment is made

Think about that first part and see how easy it is to identify that in others. In the world today we can think of numerous examples of other people feeding of the despair of others. We have to remember to take the time to reflect on moments when we feast on others misery.

The chorus also draws deeply on the idea that the wages of sin was set in the garden of Eden and we are not here to add additional punishment, this is not meant as an attack on any justice system but at a personal level.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Here is the bridge:
Restoration, lifting up the fallen
Edifying is our higher calling
If we fail to reconcile our brothers
Then we only serve to tear each other down

This is the call to action. A call to reconcile with our brothers and sisters in Christ!
If you google reconcile, just to make sure you do not have a misunderstanding, you see to restore friendly relationships between. If we fail to do that, we are only harming each other.

We are called to build up our brothers, teaching them and showing love to them. Remembering that Christ paid the price to give us Eternal life.

Jude 1:17-23
But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.
