What thoughts a bringging you down?
Pure
not mixed or adulterated
with any other substance or material.
How can that relate to us?
One song titles Pure puts it like this,
I bring the pure flow, like water around
The rocks of life won't pull me down
I bring the pure flow, drink so deep
The river of life, my soul at ease
I bring the pure flow, like water around
The rocks of life won't pull me down
I bring the pure flow, rising above the storms of life
To live and love
Here we see the idea that the singer brings with them the flow of water that protects them. They rise above the challenges of life in order to live and love. This sounds great but never feels obtainable.
Lets take a look at verse one,
This is my brand new day starting now
I let go the things that weigh me down
And rob me of the beauty that's to be found
In life all around
This is my prayer without ceasing the negative releasing
And I rise above my burden is easing
There are some interesting things in here. First we see the decision to let go of the things that bring the singer down. Those same things are not only preventing the singer from seeing beauty but stealing it from them. Then you have those last lines that start to act like a pre-chorus. This is my prayer to remove the negative and feeling the burden ease.
Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the
righteous to be moved.
It is important to remember that this pure flow is about protecting the mind. Keeping the mind from being brought down. This works by understanding that hard times come but you are not alone. One man went through the suffering and endured the pain, pain that was coming for you. And now you get to live with Him forever. It doesn’t make things easy, but it can bring joy to everything.
1 Peter 5:6-11
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the
proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he
cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your
faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your
brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while,
the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will
himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion
forever and ever. Amen.
