Come on to the Future

Hold tight, hold on
The future's on its way
Run hard, run strong
The future's on its way
It can't stop, it can't stop
Here it comes
Straight for you, head on
Here it comes
Here it comes
Here it comes
Here it comes

Come on, Come on, Come on to the future
Come all, Come all the way
Come on, Come on, Come on to the future
The future is arranged

That is the bridge and chorus of the song Come on to the Future by Skillet. I would not call the song a masterpiece of lyrics but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from it.

Overall, the song seems to be saying the future is here so don’t get left behind. Don’t worry about the past. Let’s look at Philippians 3:13-14
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

With that we see a call to move on from the past to live for Christ. Sure, this deals with the past piece, but we want to talk about the excitement that follows the future. We want to plan the next ten years of our life!

Let’s also take a look at James 4:13-17
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

Here we see that same key from Philippians. We are not to be obsessed with out plans or our past but to work for Christ. This all comes back to what He has done for us. The future is here live it for Christ, not boasting in your works but sharing His works that you could never do. Defeating death to save all from it.
