Ignoring the Moon

Do you ever look at songs and decide, this song means X, when you know it’s not true? Sometimes it can be a constructive exercise.

Let’s look at the first half of Talking to the Moon from Bruno Mars
I know you're somewhere out there
Somewhere far away
I want you back, I want you back
My neighbors think I'm crazy
But they don't understand
You're all I had, you're all I had

At night when the stars light up my room
I sit by myself

Talking to the moon
Tryna get to you
In hopes you're on the other side talking to me, too
Or am I a fool who sits alone talking to the moon?

There are a few ways to look at this. The first is that the singer is calling out to God. However, God never left and you run into some issues very quickly. What if this is God singing about you?

Romans 8:32
He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

He gave us everything. We are all He has left. All he cares about. He is trying to talk with us in a variety of different ways. But how often would He feel like He is talking to the moon with no response.

Is this a perfect comparison? Absolutely not, and it breaks down in multiple ways. But does that mean we can’t learn from it?

You have a caring creator who want to be in relationship with you. Don’t let Him talk to the moon. Grab your bible and start praying. Will everything suddenly get better, no. But you might be amazed at what does happen.
