Sentimental Feeling

Image
You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. – Luke 2:7 Would you wear a Christmas wreath as a crown? What if it didn’t have any leaves? What if it was made from thorny vines? And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. – Mark 15:17 Birth is the start, but there is more to the story of our King. Even now we are only in the middle of the story, with so much to come. Part of that is indeed death. Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. The Joy comes when you remember death is not the end. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:23

Death is Running

Image
This week’s video looked at a condensed version of O Come, OCome, Emmanuel . You can check that out here . One thing that can really add power to a song is the proper use of imagery. When done well these not only put images in your head but also have a meaningful connection. We see this in O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. Disperse the gloomy clouds of night And death’s dark shadows put to flight This clearly gives us the image of the clouds and the shadows being sent away. The real connection is death running away. Think about that for a second, death running away. This is not only what happened at Jesus’ birth and resurrection, but when Jesus returns death will be sprinting away. Isaiah 9:2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. Matthew 24:30 Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds ...

Can we live in a snowglobe?

Image
I am willing to guess that you are not very familiar with this Christmas song. It lives on the darker side. It is called Snowglobe. This starts out very pleasant. Depicting life inside a snowglobe; a perfect life straight from a Christmas card. This is what we want Christmas to be. This perfect little season of joy and gift giving. We look forward to it all year. But once it is here we can’t wait for it to be over. All the parties and the checklists and the joyless days There's a reason it's all so exhausting Where's the meaning? Where's the wonder? Where's the dreaming? All this busyness bleeding the season dry Is this not exactly what Satan does? Turn the things we want to be joyful about into these dark, exhausting, meaningless parts of our lives. This season that we claim is all about giving we have turned into getting the best things for ourselves. Or into making sure we are the one person to give the best gift. This is the season when the world...

The Hits Of Our Lives

Image
Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Sometimes songs start with a simple idea and then outgrow it. Trying to turn it into something it’s not. Causing the original idea to be completely lost and the song becomes something new. Sometimes that can be a good thing. But have you ever stopped to think about all the songs that are gone? How many simple little choruses that you have never heard and never turned into the biggest hits. And how bad were some of them, that never became anything. An example could be Mighty To Save, what if It started out all about God singing over us? How bad are the starts of our lives? How far do all of us still have to improve before we share our dark moments with others? We are always striving to show only our “hits”, our greatest acts. Isaiah 64:6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and a...
