More Doubt

This week I released a short about magnetism and that it is a little more complex then simply pulling things together.

This was to go along with the song Magnetic from Newsboys. Although, I think we can do better then a song based on a children’s Sunday school lesson, this song does contain a very honest pre-chorus.

Some days I break
I lose my way
More doubt than faith

The only way to make this more honest would be changing it to Everyday I break. Why is it so easy to have more doubt then faith?

Is faith so hard to have, we have faith in all sorts of things, we have faith that our employers will pay us, the food that our server is giving us is properly cooked and won’t cause issues, in the computer I am using to post this. We almost never doubt these things and yet we have experienced them all fail at different times.

Yet the one thing that has never let us down we can’t keep faith in.

Luke 1:37 (NIV)
For no word from God will ever fail.

It is time to keep our faith and keep our joy. God’s not done with us yet and when He returns it will be a glorious day and we have nothing to fear.

More Than Words - Extreme | Lyric Analysis

Last week I released a video on the song Shy Away and I talked about the idea that you can use something other than words to say I love you. To me this brings to mind the song More than Words by Extreme. So let’s take a look at that. Verse 1 Saying "I love you" Is not the words I want to hear from you It's not that I want you Not to say, but if you only knew How easy it would be to show me how you feel More than words is all you have to do to make it real Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me 'Cause I'd already know This verse does feel a little disconnected but overall the point is made. The singer desires to feel the love and saying it is fine but actions speak a little louder than words. Why Think

I personally believe you should think about anything before you do it. If you find yourself doing it simply because someone told you to then that is not good enough. I also believe that you shouldn’t ask anyone to do anything without explaining why to them. You are free to do what you want but let’s look at some reason that singing should not be simply repeating other things. First, let’s define singing. Dictionary.com gives us the definition as a verb of to utter words or sounds in succession with musical modulations of the voice; vocalize melodically. I personally like the definition given in The Music Man where singing is simply defined as sustained talking. Are you held responsible for the words you say? Have you ever said something and then regretted it? If singing is simply talking then the same concepts apply. Words have meaning and consequences. And it is not uncommon to hear someone tell someone else to think before you speak, so why is singing any different? ...
