Sun in my (dog's) eyes

Image
In a recent Blog post I took a quick look at the song Yesterday’s Tomorrow, Today by Dream Quest. There is a lot more to be explored but what was interesting is I ended up quoting the song in a new way sense making the post. My wife and I were sitting outside and we saw a man walking his dog. What stood out to me was that the dog was wearing sunglasses while the owner was not. It was clear that the dog did not like the sunglasses and when the dog succeeded in getting them removed the owner quickly scolded the dog and put the sunglasses back into place, this happened twice. I was so confused by this. Why would he take such extreme steps to protect the dog’s eyes and not his own? I have not done any research on a condition that would cause this to be required for the dog, but to my wife and I it seemed like if it was super important then you would use a cone to prevent the dog from accessing the glasses. What matters is that my wife could see how confused I was about this and so sh...

Dreading My Desires

Oh No, I Went And Did It Again Can't Seem To Break These Chains That Bind Me To Sin ... Been Dreading My Desires Since The Day I Was Born The Sorrow – Alarcon When you read that did it connect with you? Does this describe you? When you go back and look at the parts of the verse I omitted you see that the song is really about a guy entering Hell. But that is not the point I want to draw on. We all have things that we struggle with and it can often feel like we are drowning by our desires. We want so hard to break free from the vicious cycle this world seems to pull us back into. A fallen world is full of fallen people and temptations. Unfortunately, the easiest reaction to these things is to fall right into every single pitfall. Thankfully there is more to the story. On our own there is a chasm we cannot cross, but someone else has built a bridge. He stretched out his arms and was buried in a grave but out of that grave came a bridge to be with our Creator. You ...

Yesterday’s Tomorrow, Today | Dream Quest | Logical Lyric Analysis

Image
In a video I released I quoted this song and it seemed like no one knew it, this is not surprising but slightly disappointing, but now it gives me an excuse to take a deeper dive into Yesterday’s Tomorrow, Today by Dream Quest. Lyrics from Metal-Archives . This song starts with a spoken section that is not exactly connected with the song but still worth thinking about. The spoken section seems to try to set the stage by stating that the people need to adjust to the changing world, the changing being that there is nothing left to amuse people, specifically listed are concerts and restaurants. This then starts the debate on if life alone is enough to live for. From there we jump into the first verse I built my house Firm upon a foundation of sand Piece by piece building a shell of a man Bottle of wine Warm my spirit while I have time Thinking I am wise Safe in my room with a view This shows us right away the errors the singer has made, a life built around a bad foundati...

Gaves, Bones, and Seas?

In this week’s video we looked at Graves Into Gardens and I encouraged you to take a look at the bible passages used to form Bridge two. I know you probably came here for a nice short music-based devotion and are not excited to see another collection of bible readings. However, this project for me is not about telling people how to think but encouraging them to think for themselves. This is especially true in your faith life. If you go along and only believe what people tell you about God and the Bible then you do not have an active relationship with Him, something He truly desires for you Here are three small sections of scripture that you can explore and see how they connect with each other and how they connect with you. And here is Bridge two in case you want to reference that. You turn graves into gardens You turn bones into armies You turn seas into highways You’re the only one who can Exodus 14:1-31 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the people of Israel to turn ba...
