I have done a few different things with songs that have the word blind in the title. Most recently I did a blog post on the song She Blinded Me With Science. This prompted me to run a search on Bible Gateway for the word blind. This kicked back eighty-five results ranging from Genesis to Revelation. I think the most common thing we think of when looking for blind in the bible is the times Jesus healed blind men. We see numerous examples but one can be found in Matthew 9:27-31 And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” And their eyes were opened.  Ever sense I did the video on Blinding Lights , I wanted to go back in time a little and take a look at the song She Blinded Me With Science . She Blinded Me With Science was written by Thomas Dolby. It tells the story of a beautiful women and the effects she has had on the singer. This song really only has a Chorus, a Verse, and a Bridge. The chorus however is changed ever so slightly every time it is sung. For this week’s devotion we are basing it on Tomorrow’s song of the day from my other project Christian Rock Song of the Day . That song is By Your Throne by Scarlet White . The first verse talks about the failure that I am, including the line Kick me while I’m down. I deserve less then that now. We live in a beautiful world and sometimes we forget that. We look outside and feel like it is nothing we haven’t seen before. We are constantly told how bad everything is and how it all needs to be changed. The grass isn’t green enough and the sky isn’t blue enough. Do you really believe God is letting is amazingly complex creation rot away? Take a look at this line from This is Amazing Grace: And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder We are all left in awe and wonder in many different ways. Sometimes we do see that in nature, sometimes we see that in technology, and sometimes we see it in art. These are all good things that God has blessed us with, but we often only see the negative things. We live in a sinful world full of negativity and it is important to be aware of that. At the end of last month The Letter Black released the song Rise . I just want to take a small dive into this. First of the title feels like they were late to the race with one of the songs from Nine Lashes released recently sharing the title. Overall The Letter Black song is about rising from the past. Once you get over the intro of the song that feels not quite like anything else the group has released. The first lyrics we are met with are It was never meant to be like this . I am a big fan of examples, I don’t typically appreciate just being thrown into something without explanation. The like this can just leave you asking like what. The first verse also has the line Always know what you’re running from . This almost points out that you can’t just start comparing things to nothing.
