It Takes More Than Words

Image
In a previous blog post I went through the song More thanWords by Extreme . Today I want to explore how we can apply those ideas to our spiritual life. In a quick review the idea behind the song is that saying I love you is not always the same as showing that love through action. In a biblical sense we are called to repent, this is as a result of our love of God. Deuteronomy 6:5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Mark 6:12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. Sometimes we fall into a trap that Satan has laid. We simply ask for forgiveness but do not change our desires or intentions. A definition that I have heard for repent is to have a change of heart about sin and about God. When we truly repent we have the desire to change our ways. We are committing to do everything we can to not fall again. We will fall. There are few things we can be more certain of. But we need to do acknow...

More Than Words - Extreme | Lyric Analysis

Image
Last week I released a video on the song Shy Away and I talked about the idea that you can use something other than words to say I love you. To me this brings to mind the song More than Words by Extreme. So let’s take a look at that. Verse 1 Saying "I love you" Is not the words I want to hear from you It's not that I want you Not to say, but if you only knew How easy it would be to show me how you feel More than words is all you have to do to make it real Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me 'Cause I'd already know This verse does feel a little disconnected but overall the point is made. The singer desires to feel the love and saying it is fine but actions speak a little louder than words. The point here is that it is easy to show that love and as the love is shown you don’t have to say I love you as often. The Chorus has two parts. What would you do if my heart was torn in two? More than words to show you feel That your love for...

Living Well Is A Choice

Image
Life on this earth is a series of choices. A lot of those choice we make without realizing it. To draw on this illustration, I want to look at parts of the song Living Well by Signum Regis . The Pre-Chorus I went through hell, but I am back Ashes are still on my shoes Yet, I don't seek any payback Peace of mind is what I choose We can chose this peace of mind and we are told to do so in Romans 12:17-21 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it[a] to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. We can see the overcome evil with good reflected in the Chorus I...

Would you describe yourself as nice?

Image
Would you describe yourself as nice? In order to do that you have to first define what it means to be mean. I want to look at the song Mean Girls by Leanna Crawford to help with this. Please note this is not a deep dive but simply using the opening lines to give us something to reflect on. Mean girls don't remember what they said If you use this as defining being mean, then you better remember everything you have said. If you are a fan of this song then you are probably wanting to point out that there is more to the song then the first line. Let’s look at the first two lines then. Mean girls don't remember what they said Well, it's funny 'cause I can't seem to forget Now, is there anything that you have said that you do not remember, that someone else cannot forget? Matthew 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? I am not saying this is a true measure of if you are a nice ...
