Salty wounds
If you are sick of the “wound in salt” discussion than I apologize. When used properly the phrase “salt in wound” can create a powerful illustration. But when you change the phrase, it falls short of it’s potential. What if the issue is that the illustration should always fall flat? We see and use the word wound so much that we start to use it for minor scratches and cuts. But biblically it is so much more than that. Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. The wounds described there are the deadly kind. The kind that are reserved for the worst of the worst, not some accidental cut on your hand. Not something to be taken lightly. A severe punishment meant for you and I. Every little thing we do wrong is inflecting those wounds on Jesus. If those wounds were inflicted on us, they wouldn’t be sufficient to pay for our sin.
