Infatuated By The Darkness

Image
If you have gone through any of my content, then you are probably aware that I am always looking for songs that truly connect not only with the Gospel message but the reason we need it. The other day I found a line that particularly resonated with me. That was the following line from the song Rot by Lacey Sturm: So infatuated by the darkness so surrounded by the light. This is something we never want to admit but it applies to all of us in some way. Here read it again: So infatuated by the darkness so surrounded by the light. Even when we know we are saved, forgiven, and we truly want to change we are always drawn back to whatever is killing us. We are addicted to our sin. Let’s look at the chorus as a whole: So infatuated by the darkness and so surrounded by the light Oh my God, save my soul And still I want what's pure and want what's right But I need another fix tonight Oh my God, save my soul Why do we walk to the things that kill us? We can take at least ack...

More Then Words

Image
Music is more then just words. I understand that and I think songs can be enjoyed in a variety of different ways. I want to encourage people to think about the music they listen two and sing along with. My question is then what if you find an instrumental version of a song? Should you try to find the lyrics to it and make sure you find it sound and agree with its message? I do not know the answer on this one. I am listening to an instrumental version of an Album while writing this. I am aware there are lyrics that go with the songs, I have no idea what any of them are and I don’t really want to look at them. For me, I am scared that knowing the lyrics may make it not possible for me to enjoy the songs. I over analyze lyrics, I know that I don’t need to get as deep as I do. A simple understanding of the message is enough to say alright I am okay with this or not. For background music I could even see an argument made for using the lyric version. Then I remember examples from ...

Conflicting Powers

Image
This week’s video was on the hymn All Hail The Power of Jesus Name. I want to push the thought on this power a little bit. I believe that God has a plan that is increasingly complex with more moving parts then we can imagine. I think we can safely say that all things work together for the good of that plan. We can see this reflected in Romans 8:28                 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. We as humans can get caught up in this thought and start to think that everything is happening the way God intends. We look at circumstances and see a single outcome and think that is what God wants. This is not that simple. God uses all things to work for Him, that means things must happen that are negative. He uses these negative things in His plan and turns them around in a positive way. God has the true power, but Sata...

Life is Dynamite

Image
I recently released a video reviewing the song Dynamite and went pretty hard on the line Life is dynamite. I want to backtrack a little bit and look at what it means for us if life is dynamite, in a good way. In this case it really does show us that you think life is going great. Think of your best day or even hour and how amazing it felt. Now remember that there is something far better coming. Jesus describes heaven as simply “Paradise” in Luke 23:43. Realistically, this is something completely unfathomable to us. Whatever paradise is to you multiply it by thousands. It will be unlike anything we could ever experience here on earth. We will have direct connection with God and He has already taken away all the pain. Let’s take a look at Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” There will be nothing left to morn. He has Risen!...
