Think Before You Sing

Shouldn't we agree with the words we are singing and hold them accountable to mean something logically? How can you fight that demon?

Image
Sometimes we forget how real the spiritual world is. We fail to realize how hard it is to live with temptation because we view ourselves as successful and in control. We believe we are responsible for our accomplishments and disregard God’s handiwork in even the minuscule. We ignore how much we are attacked in a verity of ways by Satan and his demons. They're on my back I run, but I can feel their talons digging in my flesh Blood trickles down upon the earth And I grow weaker with each breath Each time I shake one off another wraps its teeth around my neck And every time, the one, the thorn is there To tear me down again This is a small section of the lyrics from the song LayingThe Demon To Rest by Theocracy . This is one way to remind ourselves that even when times are good it has very little to do with us. On the other hand, when the thorn persists, God has not abandoned us, and that is the only reason we stand a chance against our demons. The angels counterstrik...

So Sorry For My Hidden Motivations

Image
This week I released a YouTube video on the song So Sorry by Hangnail . And although the song doesn’t make any direct connection to Christ, that doesn’t mean there isn’t something we can learn from it and apply to our lives. Let’s take a look at the second part of the first verse. Who am I to decide the intent And every motivation behind an event I see through tainted vision When I can't even read myself Is this not something we do all the time? You have witnessed someone do or say something and without talking to them about it you “just know” why they did it. You might be right, but chances are you are at best partially correct because you don’t have all the knowledge of that person’s life events. The second part is true as well. We take actions that we convince ourselves we did for some good reason, yet deep down we know we have other motivations that we don’t want to admit. Matthew 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice th...

The flood was a great thing.

Image
I have been thinking a lot about the song Great Things since I posted the short video . If we look at the chorus we see the only real examples of His great works given by the song. Oh, hero of Heaven, You conquer the grave You free every captive and break every chain Oh God, You have done great things We dance in Your freedom, awake and alive Oh Jesus, our Savior, Your name lifted high Oh God, You have done great things This is indeed the greatest thing that has been done but the song is called great things and a simple “You've been faithful through every storm” is not an example. Now, if I really wanted to go after this, then I would be making a video. Instead, I want to talk about some of the great things that could have been included. If you stick with New Testament, you have plenty of options : walking on water, duplicating food to feed way more then it should have, miraculous healings, and many more. For some reason though, I keep going back to the flood. I thin...
